Exodus is a story of redemption. God rescues his people from slavery to Pharoah in Egypt and brings them into freedom to worship the real God. All along the story are miracles, snakes, blood, fights, deaths, songs, and more – stuff that makes Charlton Heston look weak.

The man God uses most in this story is Moses, someone who has to live in two worlds at the same time, yet obey his God, too. Later in the Bible, we see Moses compared to Jesus, another man who had to live in two worlds at the same time while obeying his God. The Bible says that Jesus has taken the place of Moses and has become for us a better rescue, a fuller redemption.

Jesus, the new and better Moses, has come to bring hurting people out of a land of slavery far worse than Egypt into a land far better than Israel. By Jesus’ death and resurrection, He has defeated Satan, a ruler far more dangerous than Pharaoh, the slave master of Egypt.

As we read the Exodus story, we will find that it can be our story. As we rediscover the redemption in the story, we will find our redemption, too. Redemption in Jesus, the better Moses. Join us on the journey this summer.

Todays sermon really hit home with all the car troubles, neck pain and business related issues that I have been facing lately.( Nothing as bad as buiIding bricks with no straw, however.) Wondered where Mathew could go with the sermon on this Exodus 5-23…… How could there be good behind the inflated trouble the Hebrews were now experiencing….. Wow, I get it that God was on a rescue mission…..He was after the redemption of their hearts and not just the circumstances…… I think I get it…….Praise God that he is on a rescue mission for me!!! Thank you dear Father for continuing to show me who you are. I am overwhelmed by His mercy, grace and love. All the praise and glory be to our God and Savior, Jesus Christ!
